About ToolSite
Free, accurate PPM move estimates — built on official Joint Travel Regulations data.
Why We Built This Calculator
Military PCS season generates thousands of questions every year: How much will my PPM move pay? Is it worth doing a DITY move at my weight and distance? Will I actually profit after truck rental and fuel?
Most service members estimate by asking friends or guessing from old move claims. That's not good enough when you're making a decision that could mean $3,000–$10,000 in income. We built ToolSite to give service members a reliable, transparent estimate based on the same framework the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) uses — the Government Bill of Lading (GBL) rate structure from Chapter 5 of the Joint Travel Regulations.
No paywall. No account required. No upselling moving services. Just an accurate calculator you can use to make a better decision before you commit to a move strategy.
Built for Military Movers
Every field in this calculator reflects real PPM program variables — pay grade weight allowances, OCONUS rate modifiers, and the 95% payout structure. We don't round corners on the math.
Sourced from Official Regulations
Our weight allowances come directly from JTR Table 5-45. Our rate calculations use the GBL framework administered by DFAS. We cite our sources on every page because you should be able to verify the math.
Updated Annually
GBL rates and weight allowances are updated each fiscal year. We review and update our calculator data to reflect current JTR guidelines so your estimate is based on today's rates, not last year's.
Our Editorial Process
Every calculation on this site is traced to a primary source. The weight allowance table in our calculator comes from the Joint Travel Regulations. The GBL rate structure comes from DFAS-published rate frameworks. The 95% PPM payout rate is specified in JTR Chapter 5, Section 5310.
Our blog content is reviewed for factual accuracy before publishing. We cross-reference every claim in our guides against official government sources — primarily DFAS, travel.dod.mil (JTR), and Military OneSource. Where regulations change, we update our content and note the revision date.
This calculator provides estimates. Your actual PPM payout will be determined by DFAS based on certified weight tickets and the contracted GBL rate in effect on your move date. Always confirm your specific entitlements with your Transportation Management Office (TMO) before moving.
